Are you planning to try speed dating? Great choice! You fill out the form, pick a date, and look forward to an evening full of interesting encounters. But there is one small detail that can give away your anonymity before you even get a chance to say "Hello." That detail is your email address.
When your email speaks for you
While organizing our dating events, we occasionally come across email addresses like karla.pivodova@gmail.com, john.doe@barclays.com, or even 777123456@seznam.cz.
In those moments, we think to ourselves: "Aha! We know the name, we can guess the job, we have the phone number... and the date hasn't even started yet." If you want to maintain your privacy and stay in control of what you share with whom, your email is the best place to start.
What happens when there’s a "match"?
The principle of speed dating is based on discretion. During the evening, you only use your first name (or a nickname) and do not share any private contact details. However, if the sparks fly and there is a mutual "match" at the end of the night, our system automatically exchanges your contact information.
This is exactly when your email address comes into play. Before you even send your first message, your email might unintentionally reveal to your match:
-
Your full name and surname (ideal for instant "background checks" on social media).
-
The company where you work (if you use a work email).
-
Your phone number (if it's part of your email handle).
-
Your year or date of birth (a common addition for people with popular names).
Our advice: Share information gradually
Dating should be about gradually building trust. It’s not about being suspicious; it’s about healthy caution. You want the other person to get to know you through your stories and personal charm, not through Google search results.
What can you do? If your primary email address contains too many personal details, we recommend setting up a new, anonymous email for dating purposes (e.g., traveler.from.prague@gmail.com). This way, you’ll have all messages from potential partners in one place while maintaining a safe distance until you decide to share more.
A great date starts with a feeling of safety
Speed dating at our events is designed to be highly effective yet discreet. The atmosphere at our evenings is relaxed and friendly precisely because our clients feel safe.
By approaching dating thoughtfully and protecting your personal data, you can fully focus on what matters most—the chemistry, shared topics, and the joy of a new encounter.
