Artificial Intelligence in Dating Apps: Will it Bring a Breakthrough in Dating?

Rady a tipy na seznámení

Dating is no longer just about random encounters or matchmaking. According to a 2023 Pew Research survey, about half of respondents under the age of 30 have used a dating site or dating app. In addition, artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly entering the game, promising to help find the right person. How is artificial intelligence affecting modern dating? Do we have reason to be concerned?

Artificial Intelligence in Dating Apps

Although online dating sites and dating apps are quite popular, many users have had rather negative experiences with dating in the virtual world. The most common problems with online dating sites include ghosting, communication freezes, lengthy correspondence, fake profiles, and more.

Some dating sites, such as Tinder or Hinge, are trying to help their users solve these problems. That is why they have implemented artificial intelligence into their dating apps, which, for example, helps to find the best match or start a conversation in a chat.

Benefits of AI in Dating

Artificial intelligence brings new experiences to dating, making it easier to establish contact and connect with people with similar hobbies or values. What innovations do users praise most often?

Help with starting a conversation

Many people feel nervous when they have to start a conversation with a stranger. Few people can use a few words to attract attention and arouse interest in the other person. Often, the conversation gets stuck on trite phrases like "hello, how are you?" and eventually fades into oblivion.
Some dating apps make it easier for users to start a conversation - you can have artificial intelligence generate a novel message or topic for a first date, even right in the dating app.

Smart Matches

Some dating apps, such as Tinder, are starting to use AI to improve their match suggestions and increase your chances of a successful meeting. Artificial intelligence can analyze your interests, preferences, and even the way you write messages. This helps you find potential partners with whom you actually have something in common.

Communication Skills Training

Worried about missing the point on a date? Or don’t know how to start a conversation? You can try apps like EVA AI, which are specifically designed to train your communication skills. These apps look like regular dating apps, the only difference is that instead of real people, you chat with bots. A “dummy” date with bots can help you gain more confidence, overcome fears or nervousness, and improve your communication skills.

Risks of using AI in dating

Artificial intelligence arouses great passions in society – some people do not allow it, others reject it or point out potential threats and impacts on society and individuals. The truth is that using artificial intelligence, not only in dating, is not without risk. What can unpleasantly surprise you about AI?

Loss of authenticity

If artificial intelligence advises you or your partner on how to converse and behave, all authenticity disappears. When confronted with reality, you may be unpleasantly disappointed, even shocked. Another risk is that you immerse yourself in your new role created with the help of AI so much that you end up forgetting who you really are.

Overconfidence in algorithms

It is nice when an application recommends a potential partner to us, but we should not forget about our own intuition and common sense. What can happen if we succumb to excessive trust in algorithms? You can see this in the Czechoslovak comedy Hodíme se k sobé miláčku…? The film was made in the 1970s, when the use of artificial intelligence in dating was an element of science fiction.

Data abuse

Artificial intelligence works with your personal data. If you decide to use AI in dating, choose only dating applications that pay attention to security and transparency. This will avoid unpleasant problems associated with the misuse of your personal data.

Cyberattacks

Avast recently described a new malicious malware, Love-GPT, which specializes in online dating and uses the popular ChatGPT tool. It is far from the only one. This malware can bypass the antivirus protection of Facebook, Tinder and other applications. It creates fake profiles under which it establishes contacts with users as a real person. Hackers are often motivated by selling the obtained personal data or blackmailing them through lured intimate photos or messages. In the online space, you can never be sure whether you are having a conversation with a real person or a virtual fraudster. Therefore, never give out your personal information or send photos that could compromise you to a stranger online.

The emergence of addiction

Chatting with AI can be convenient and enjoyable – your AI partner will always understand you, never reject you and always be able to answer exactly how you want. However, this can lead to you becoming addicted to the “perfect” conversations. The consequence of this addiction can be problems in relationships with real people who are not so predictable or always understanding. Real relationships are based on naturalness and the ability to resolve disagreements – but you will never experience these situations with a virtual partner.

Artificial intelligence can be a great helper in finding love. But is it better to rely on algorithms or give preference to the real world? The decision is yours. If you would rather meet in the real world but lack opportunities, try speed dating. Speed dating offers the opportunity to meet several potential partners in one evening – all without unnecessary waiting for replies to the chat and with the immediate possibility of assessing whether there is a spark between you.

If you want to experience real chemistry and avoid digital filtering and pretense, come try speed dating.
